How are Heart Attack and Unstable Angina diagnosed?

Most people experiencing symptoms of heart attack and unstable angina, require admission or referral to hospital. A doctor can then conduct the following tests to confirm suspected heart attack and unstable angina.1

  • A resting 12-lead electrocardiogram ECG
  • Blood tests (e.g. serum troponin levels)

The same tests can be conducted in the primary care (general practice) setting if the pain symptoms were experienced more than 72 hours earlier and there are no complications.
